HISTORIC PIPE ORGAN

The Kessler Pipe Organ is Alaska's oldest organ built in 1844 by Ernst Kessler.  The Kessler pipe organ, probably the first pipe organ in any church on the Pacific coast north of Mexico, was initially described incorrectly in early Sitka records as a “six toned reed organ.”  On December 9, 1993, a fire occurred, seriously damaging the church and some of its contents. The organ was also damaged but fortunately not beyond restoration. It was rebuilt by Pasi Organ Builders in 1995 and is fully restored.
